Venue and Accommodation

ECSCW 2017 will take place at Sheffield Hallam University’s City Campus, located in the Cultural Industries Quarter in Sheffield City Centre and close to the train station and to many hotels and other attractions.

Most of ECSCW 2017 events will be based in the newly-built Charles Street building, easily reachable on foot from many hotels and from the train and bus stations. The main conference track will take place in the Charles Street Lecture Theatre.

Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) is one of the largest universities in the UK, with more than 30,000 students and 4,000 staff, offering approximately 610 different courses. SHU is a modern university with a long and proud history, dating from the opening of two 19th century schools which would later become the foundations for Sheffield Polytechnic.

The Cultural, Communication and Computing Research Institute is a multidisciplinary research institute under the Faculty of Arts, Computing, Engineering and Science,making connections between the research traditions of art, design, media production, communication studies, computing and engineering.
C3RI is Sheffield Hallam University’s largest and highest rated community of researchers. C3RI is one of the excellences of SHU, championing internationally-leading multidisciplinary research and knowledge transfer which has seen SHU rise 25 places in research ranking in the latest Research Evaluation Framework.
As well as a team of senior researchers, PhD students and and research professors and readers, C3RI hosts “Design Futures”, a commercial entity delivering innovative product and packaging solutions to clients worldwide; “Lab for Living”, a R&D unit specialising on design of technologies for healthcare and quality of life; and dedicated knowledge transfer staff specialised in linking research with businesses and other external partners.
